On the following pages we're building a series of links to interesting websites, organizations and articles found on the web. It's an informal archive of inspirational things from all over the world. We're selecting sites on the basis that that they are useful to creative people or simply inspiring to everyone.
Eboy is a colourful illustration concept that you might have seen in various bits of advertising. Work is often a kind of logo like architectural landscape. The site is good fun and you buy posters online. An interesting example of how the boundaries between design, advertising, illustration and retail are now blurred.
FAT are possibly the strangest architecture practice in the UK. Fat create architecture with a sense of humour, which we think is pretty rare. The practice have recently completed a scheme of social housing in the controversial and much observed New Islington regeneration scheme in Manchester.
The Institute Without Boundaries is an interdisciplinary project where designers work with other professionals to address global issues. A brilliant idea and possibly the future of how we need to use design. People are invited to join the team on a project by project basis. Previous projects have included Massive Change with designer Bruce Mau. Their latest project is the World House Project. Have a look at the website, it’s inspiring stuff.
Books, posters and DVD based around design and photography. Your Work For Them is a great little independent online retailer.
Eye Magazine is an international review of graphic design. Don’t be put off by the not so easy to use site, as this is probably one of the best magazines in the world on design. Many articles are essays, reports and historical studies. Much of the content has a strong social content so its interesting read for anyone interested in design, visual culture and creative process. This is not a trade journal, this beautifully designed magazine and great read every quarter. Worth the subscription.
This is a truly unique site. YH Chang is a series of typographic animations set to music that tell stories. What’s great about this site is how technology is used to deliver something incredibly simple with such great impact and drama. Not something that I’d associate with the web. The result is incredibly compelling, The home page looks quite obscure, don’t be put off, have an explore. YH Chang is an artist based in Seoul, Korea.
